Arbeit Zukunft (Germany) Easter Marches 2026: Join forces to strengthen the fight for Peace!

(Arbeit Zukunft)

Conflicts are escalating around the world. The U.S. attacks on Iran and Venezuela have shown that U.S. imperialism will defend its hegemony at any cost. Threats against Cuba are escalating and are already indicating where the next theater of war could emerge. To ensure it is not sidelined in the major conflict looming between the US and China, but rather able to play an active role, Germany is stepping up the pace: massive rearmament of both Germany and the EU, which is increasingly being expanded into a military alliance.

“Militarism” permeates every aspect of life!

War propaganda is in full swing in the media. The mere fact that the war in Iran violates international law—as Federal President Steinmeier recently emphasized—is causing outrage across the entire media landscape. Imperialism is diligently condemned, but it’s always the others. And whether Russia will attack us is no longer a question today—the only question is when it will happen. We hear all of this every day—no wonder more and more people are afraid and think that rearmament is the only option.

In schools, young people are currently grappling with what this will mean for them: With the new military service law, the first step toward a new draft has been taken. Over 50,000 students have already gone on strike twice and shown that they won’t go along with it—yet they are being threatened with expulsion and poor grades.

Preparations for the next war are also in full swing in the workplace. VW is set to produce drones for Israel, the Lürssen shipyards are building ships for Rheinmetall, and hospitals are being prepared for an emergency. It’s clear: they need all of us, whether on the front lines or in the factories, to wage their wars.

But that is precisely where our strength lies!

After all, it is no wonder that the propaganda of war is intended to drive up the approval of armament: it is we who are supposed to wage these wars and it is also we who can put a stop to them. Not only history has shown that the workers and peoples can end wars on their own – only last year the workers in Italy built up pressure with their general strikes to end the genocide in Gaza and only a few years ago port and railway workers prevented arms deliveries to Ukraine and Russia.

This makes it all the more important now to spread resistance to the war drive throughout society: Let’s form new strike committees in our schools to make the next school strike on March 8 even bigger! Let’s network as parents and show our solidarity with the students in practical ways! Let’s put the peace issue back on the agenda at our workplaces and in our unions! Let’s support initiatives like “Unions Against Armament and War”! Let’s make it clear that the issue of peace is not a moral question in the distant future, but one that directly threatens our future today through the multi-billion-dollar arms race—because, on the other hand, billions are being cut from healthcare, education, housing, and social services.

All of this is reason enough to continue the fight against war at this year’s Easter March, but also every day thereafter, and to say loud and clear:

This is not our war!
