The following is a comradely greeting sent from the Resist US-Led War Movement to the American Party of Labor on behalf of the party’s Fifth Congress.

The Resist US-Led War Movement congratulates the American Party of Labor on the holding of its 2024 National Congress, and we extend our well wishes for its success!

The Resist US-Led War Movement, or “Resist” for short, is a global network of pro-peace organizations, waging anti-war campaigns and developing resources and education to grow the anti-war movement united on two calls: Resist US-Led War (including military invasions, occupations, sanctions, war exercises, etc.) and Build Just Peace (through justice, social equity, and solidarity amongst people).  Our members are from all over the world, from North America, to Europe to Asia, and growing.

The APL recently joined Resist as a national member organization, and its members have contributed much in the form of research, propaganda creation and contributions to mobilizations around our global campaigns, titled “Cut Ties With War Profiteers!” and the “Anti-Militarism Agenda.”  We thank the Party for all of its contributions to helping us build this network and apply our analysis on US-led war and just peace, including through coverage in the Red Phoenix newspaper.  Currently, there are APL members from around the country supporting in the Research and Education work of Resist, and the Portland APL branch is an active member in the Portland Resist chapter.

The imperialist and reactionary militarist powers are on the warpath like we haven’t seen in decades. The genocidal war of the fascist and expansionist US-Israeli regime against the people of Palestine and wider West Asia, the expansion of NATO and resumption of heightened military confrontations in Ukraine between US-backed Kiev and Russia, the increase in militarization and growth of new military alliances in Asia Pacific, and the rapid shifting in the balance of imperialist powers and growth of new independent regimes in Latin America and Africa are all evident of heightening contradictions between colonized peoples and imperialists, independent countries and imperialists and between the imperialists themselves, all stemming from the historic and ever-heightening struggle between labor and capital.  To fund its wars of aggression and military build-up, the US is set to pass a nearly $900 billion defense budget for 2025, the largest in history, all while inflation has raised prices of electricity by 3.6%, gasoline increased by 3.8%, rent increased by 5.8%, and food increased by a staggering 21% for the working masses of the country.

We must unite firmly to resist US-led war and build just peace before the world descends into another economic down-spiral, let alone into the irreversible horrors of nuclear war, ecological collapse, or any other imperialist profit-driven catastrophe.  We hope APL members will join us this summer in San Diego where we plan to confront the military send-off party to this year’s Rim of the Pacific military exercises, the world’s largest joint exercises taking place in Hawaii.

We hope that the APL Congress will be a space where discussions and resolutions of action will be united upon that lead to sustained growth in the anti-imperialist and anti-war movements.  Let us fight together to win more organizing victories for the people in 2024 and beyond!
