PCOF: On the death of a right-wing extremist and its instrumentalization

Workers’ Communist Party of France (PCOF) | Feb. 21, 2026 | Translated for the Red Phoenix by Mike M.–

Editor’s Note: Rassemblement National (RN), “National Rally,” is a far-right nationalist party. La France Insoumise (LFI), “France Unbowed,” is a democratic-socialist party.

The death of a right-wing extremist, killed in a brawl with anti-fascists in Lyon, has given rise to an intense offensive of violent, neofascist political currents from the extreme right. The Rassemblement National which permeates the institutional political terrain, is attempting, together with the right and the followers of Macron, to vilify La France Insoumise and Jean-Luc Melanchon.

This unjustifiable lynching should not erase the racist murders, racially-motivated violence, sacking of bookstores, etc., of right-wing militants, some of whom claim the mantle of Nazism. All these groups express themselves abundantly in the media and in social media, and are authorized to march in Lyon on the anniversary of the Nazi execution of Manouchian and his comrades under the Affiche rouge, on Feb. 21, 1944!

All reactionary ideas, including the terms and concepts of the far-right, are normalized, and disseminated without filters. From the placement of the extreme left and the extreme right on the same plane, we have now passed to the victimization of the extreme right and the criminalization of the radical left.

All of us, as individuals and organizations, are summoned to pay homage to the far-right activist, just as we denounce this same extreme right as the enemy of the working class, the masses, and the peoples, and which we combat.

The climate of repression is rising: anti-Zionism is equated with anti-Semitism, and the criminalization of anti-Zionism is on the agenda through new laws. The radical denunciation of the political system leads to one’s qualification as an extreme leftist, accused of violence and terrorism. It suffices to see what is happening with Trump to gauge the danger of these “slides.”

We must resist on every field, collectively.
