Supporters of Palestine from across the New York City area will gather in the Palestinian-American community of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for a Palestine takeover – a family-friendly celebration of resistance, life, culture, food, music, and the ongoing struggle for Palestinian liberation, to mark 75 years since the start of the ongoing Nakba, which is the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by Israel that began in 1948.
WHO: Members and supporters of Within Our Lifetime and Samidoun New York/New Jersey
WHAT: Nakba Day march for Palestinian resistance and return
WHERE: 72nd Street and 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York
WHEN: 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 13
“75 years from the start of the ongoing Nakba, we mourn the temporary loss of our homeland and the martyrdom of so many of our Palestinian brothers and sisters at the hands of the so-called state of Israel,” said Laila Boutros, coordinator of Samidoun New York/New Jersey. “Despite the magnitude of our struggle, we will not stop celebrating our resistance, and we will show the world that we are going to make our voices heard until Palestine is free, from the river to the sea.”
The demonstration, one of dozens worldwide this weekend, will also protest the killing of Palestinian political prisoner and freedom fighter Khader Adnan whose life was taken behind bars after 86 days on hunger strike, and the Palestinian people who were martyred in the latest Zionist attack on Gaza on May 9th, 2023.
“As we mourn the Nakba, we also mourn the Palestinian political prisoner and freedom fighter Khader Adnan and the Palestinian people martyred in Gaza on May 9th,” said Nerdeen Kiswani, chair of Within Our Lifetime. “For the last 75 years we have mourned countless Palestinians killed by the Israeli state, paid for by the U.S.”
