Statement of the American Party of Labor on the Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

“National and racial chauvinism is a vestige of the misanthropic customs characteristic of the period of cannibalism. Antisemitism, as an extreme form of racial chauvinism, is the most dangerous vestige of cannibalism.  Antisemitism is of advantage to the exploiters as a lightning conductor that deflects the blows aimed by the working people at capitalism. Antisemitism is dangerous for the working people as being a false path that leads them off the right road and lands them in the jungle. Hence Communists, as consistent internationalists, cannot but be irreconcilable, sworn enemies of antisemitism.  In the U.S.S.R. antisemitism is punishable with the utmost severity of the law as a phenomenon deeply hostile to the Soviet system. Under U.S.S.R. law active antisemites are liable to the death penalty.”

 — J. Stalin (1931).

The American Party of Labor, emphatically and in the strongest possible terms, condemns the fascist/antisemitic attack that claimed the lives of eleven worshipers at the Tree of Life – Or L’Simcha Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh on October 27th.

The responsibility for this attack, the latest in an increasing number of similar murderous outrages against Jews, African-Americans, Muslims, LGBTQ+ people, and other marginalized and oppressed peoples lies squarely with the Donald Trump administration, which has, in word and deed encouraged neo-Nazi and white supremacist violence in this country.

The American Party of Labor demands justice for the victims.  We demand that the perpetrator, known neo-Nazi Robert Bowers be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law; and, if found guilty, sentenced to the severest possible punishment.

To fascists, racists, and antisemites we say:  Take heed.  The popular fury, once unleashed cannot and will not be restrained.

To the victims of racist and fascist violence we say:  Take heart.  The people’s victory will be your vengeance.
