– The U.S. has sought to overthrow the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ever since its inception

At the end of World War II, Yeo Un-hyung was elected as the President of the People’s Republic of Korea (PRK), governed by popular committees which were abolished by military decree in the south by American forces, who replaced the popular committees with the puppet Republic of Korea (ROK). In the north the people’s committees, instead of being abolished, were co-opted by the Workers Party of Korea, leading to the establishment of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).

In 1950, the U.S. imperialists triggered off a war in Korea with their support of the fascist dictatorship of Syngman Rhee, which conducted many incursions into the north, as well as massacres of entire villages in the name of fighting communism, to be replicated many more times in events such as the infamous Bodo League Massacre.

Immediately the Korean People’s Army went over to counter-attack, and with south Koreans defecting en masse, liberated almost all of Korea just six days after the start of war. Syngman Rhee fled Seoul for Busan, destroying the Han bridge behind him, trapping his countrymen in the city.

Stationed in Japan, the U.S. fleet saw Korea as part of their “prize” of victory against Japan, and so were ordered by President Truman to land in Busan to prop up the fascist Syngman Rhee regime, and abolish the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

With the support of the progressive peoples of the world, the Korean People’s Army dealt a crushing blow to the U.S. imperialists, handing them their first defeat, a wounded pride the U.S. Army has never restored after failing in their objective to “liberate” the north of Korea. An armistice was signed, but no formal peace treaty, and the U.S. and ROK negotiated a status of forces agreement (SOFA) giving the U.S. command of the south Korean military, which they maintain to this day.

Truman and the American politicians knew there would be no celebratory welcome home for the veterans of Korea, for they had claimed they would “stop” communism and they could not. Thus, in the United States the Korean War became the “Forgotten War,” and in the DPRK, the “Fatherland Liberation War.”

– The U.S. and south Korea have been making increasingly provocative actions towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ever since the collapse of the USSR

Since the early 1990s, the U.S. imperialists have been proselytizing with the myth of the “end of history” and the “collapse of socialism,” beating the same tune for thirty years that bourgeois liberalism is the final form of government. In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, ties were strengthened with Cuba, and the two signed many more agreements reaffirming their commitment to each other and to the socialist road.

Kim Jong-il strengthened the resolve of many socialists during the period since the collapse of the USSR, meeting with them and inspiring them with his faith in socialism, and with the indisputable fact that despite the prattling of the imperialists about the imminent collapse of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, it survived its worst trial it ever faced and remained stable right up to the end of Kim Jong-il’s leadership.

– The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s nuclear program is in response to the imperialists’ growing interest in intervention

In the 1960s and 1970s, the United States began the nuclearization of the Korean peninsula by placing nuclear weapons in their bases in south Korea. In response, the DPRK demanded the de-nuclearization of the peninsula, put forward as a demand in mass rallies throughout the 1960s and 1970s. In the 1990s, with the demise of the Soviet Union, and the realization that a strong deterrent would be the only thing to prevent the U.S. imperialists from invading and occupying the country as they had done in Yugoslavia, Albania, and Iraq, a defensive nuclear weapons project was initiated by Kim Il-sung.

President Kim Il-sung’s program surged forward under Kim Jong-il, who prevented a Yugoslav-war type situation on the peninsula by cultivating a disciplined and modern army brought up to guard the peace in Korea, and throughout all of Kim Jong-il’s life and leadership, prevented the outbreak of war.

In a statement made to the Seventh Congress of the Workers Party of Korea, Kim Jong-un stated that: “As a responsible nuclear weapons state, our republic will not use a nuclear weapon unless its sovereignty is encroached upon by any aggressive hostile forces with nukes,” emphasizing the unwavering line of the DPRK on its determination to build its self-defense power.

– The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has NOT threatened south Korea, Japan, or the United States. Rather, they have made warnings of self-defense, which have been deliberately misinterpreted by the imperialists’ propaganda as threats

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is not “an enigma.” A formal peace must be signed, the status of forces agreement must be suspended. U.S. troops OUT of south Korea – this is the only path to reunification. American imperialists will never force Korea to bow with threats and intimidation, not economic, not military.

– Trump’s interest in military intervention in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is not new, rather this has been brewing for decades

We believe that President Trump’s theatrics are nothing more than a pathetic attempt to disguise his own weakness, and the weakness of the U.S. as a world power.

Never before in history has the U.S. empire negotiated from such a position of weakness: during the Presidency of Bush 43, the U.S. empire lost its grip on Latin America, never to get it back. President Obama was forced to concede to the 50-year-old demand of the Cuban people for normalized relations, admitting the U.S. threats and terrorism had failed utterly.

Now, with the DPRK the most stable it’s ever been, with the Korean People’s Army the strongest its ever been, and with the U.S. leader being the most unpopular one in its history with demonstrations and mass mobilizations threatening the economic and political integrity of his proto-fascist regime, President Trump makes a big show in the media of sending a “battle group” to Korea.

Except the battle group never came, and in fact sailed AWAY from Korea.

An apt metaphor for the entire situation, a show of strength meant to cover a very corrosive cowardice and ineptitude.

We speculate that Steve Bannon’s removal from his national security post very early into the recent political debacle surrounding threats of war may reflect the fact that the true warhawks, represented by Bannon, have fallen from favor and that the U.S. administration has largely reverted to the same tired script it has been using for years.

– However, Trump’s desire to invade the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is more likely because of fascism’s militarist nature, in addition to his poor foresight of the consequences

Nevertheless, it must be said that President Trump and his fascist cohorts are playing with fire, and should heed the advice of our comrades and allies who are taking to the streets of the world to demand a peaceful end to the Korean War, lest he gravely miscalculate the iron-will of the Korean people who still remember when the U.S. last attempted to conquer their nation.

 – The continuing imperialist plundering and hoarding of resources

Just as the hunt for rare earth minerals has caused the East and West to increase its imperialist activity in Africa, the DPRK finds itself in a similar fate. Some bourgeois-minded analysts have called this “the new Scramble For Africa.” We Marxists know this is simply a new intensification of neo-colonial exploits for Africa’s rare earth minerals.

It has recently been reported that the DPRK, a country which has had few natural resources to utilize, may now have a resource that everyone wants: rare earth minerals. The DPRK may have up to six times more rare earth minerals in its territory than China.

Just as wars have been fought over oil, spice, and gold, a new war looms for a new resource necessary for the growth of technological development. We will not stand for another war of death destruction to kill millions so the few, the capitalists, can monopolize the ownership of this new use-value just as it has with oil.

– An invasion of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will endanger precious civilian lives on the Korean peninsula, the Japanese Islands, and the United States

If the U.S. imperialists dare to strike at the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Korean People’s Army will retaliate with every offensive and defensive measure at its disposal. There is no scenario in which the U.S. forces in Korea would survive, the U.S. soldiers there openly told by their commanders “if North Korea attacks, you are a speed bump.” For civilians the cost will be far greater, not just in Korea but Japan, the U.S. and other countries as well. Large tracts of land will be uninhabitable for decades, there is almost no chance the U.S. will survive a conflict with the DPRK, militarily or economically.

– An invasion of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea will damage relations with China, and has the potential to start a nuclear war

China will never tolerate an invasion of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, nor will the great majority of the progressive peoples of the world, such as DPRK’s allies in Latin America like Cuba, Bolivia and Venezuela, or the ex-colonial countries of Africa. U.S. militarism’s wounded pride over its defeat in the 1950s is a poor reason to risk a war against the entire world in which the U.S. could be annihilated, along with all other peoples of the world. It is the cause of humanity to oppose the U.S. war racket in Korea.

Our Party reaffirms its commitment to the demands put forward in our 2016 platform:

– We demand an immediate and unconditional military withdrawal from all foreign countries, the closure of all overseas U.S. military bases, and the nullification of all existing status of forces agreements, which place the militaries of sovereign countries under U.S. command.

– We demand an immediate cessation of military and financial aid to the governments of the Philippines, Colombia, the Zionist entity of Israel, and other outposts of imperialism and capitalist oppression.

– We demand the immediate signing of a peace treaty with the DPRK, an end to U.S. sanctions, an end to the occupation of the south of the Korean peninsula, an end to harassment and joint-military exercises, and the nullification of all status of forces agreements.

Our Party calls on our comrades, the working people, youth and veterans, to organize anti-war demonstrations, actions and occupations at Trump properties, war manufacturers such as Lockheed Martin and Boeing, and the embassies of the south Korean puppets and the U.S. and Japanese imperialists with the express purpose of disrupting the march to war and echoing the demands of the progressive people of the world.
