As I.C.E. thugs execute innocents, workers must band together

On Jan. 24, ICE pigs assassinated yet another innocent worker in cold blood. There is no way to describe this event other than as a vile state-sanctioned execution of a person exercising the right to protest. ICE is a mob of murderers who have been given immunity by their accomplices: the Trump administration and the capitalist class that they all represent.

Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse who had dedicated his career to assisting the sick and injured in his community, and bravely spent his free time resisting ICE’s attacks on his neighbors in Minnesota. Pretti, just like Silvero Villegas-Gonzalez and Renee Good, is only the most recent example of another innocent person with a vibrant and important life cut short by fascist violence. Much like the murders of Villegas-Gonzalez and Good, the capitalist media is already moving to drum up lies about Pretti to besmirch him as an individual in order to defend his grotesquely violent illegal execution. We must not buy into these lies, as they come from the same source as the lies which justified ICE’s occupation of Minnesota, and many more of our communities, in the first place.

Recent events have made it more clear that an offense to one section of our class is an assault against all of our class, and that our safety can only be achieved through the abolition of ICE, DHS, CBP, and all other repressive apparatuses of the capitalist state. To achieve this future, it is us, the working class, who must come together to form new organizations and further develop those existing in order to defend our communities.

The best time to do this was yesterday, and the next best time is right now.

Wherever possible, join ICE watch groups, join community defense organizations, support the mass demonstrations and popular strikes, follow the boycotts of corporations supporting and contracting with ICE, donate to bail relief and community funds, and above all join working-class political organizations.

It is no mistake that ICE’s violence is escalating as workers have led the first general strike in over 80 years in Minneapolis!

The ruling class is terrified. They know that working-class power is the only thing that can defeat them!

Do not let the violence today lead to disorganization and chaos! Come together and take the struggle further!

Rest in power Alex Pretti! In his name, and all those killed by the capitalist state before him, we must take the struggle forward!
