The following is a comradely greeting sent from the Labor Party of Turkey (EMEP) to the American Party of Labor on behalf of the party’s Fifth Congress.

Dear Comrades,

Not only because the American continent is one of the largest, and not only because it is the richest country according to GDP the United States is the biggest country in the world.

The reason is that the US is the most powerful imperialist. Yes, it is still the most powerful one, despite its declining power against its rival, the second most powerful imperialist power.

The main reason for its greatness is its over 220 million workers. Almost 132 million were full-time workers by this February, while 4.4 million were working part-time. Unfortunately, it is still a capitalist country, and there is huge unemployment; the labour force participation rate is 60.1%, and besides other issues, large masses of workers are jobless.

The working class in the US is not only great in terms of quantity; despite its relative calm and silence up until the last few years, it has begun to take action to deserve the working class as a name. We have witnessed its mobilisation in several sectors where there is union organisation, especially in the automotive sector.

However, what our class lacks the most in the US, as elsewhere across the world, is consciousness and organisation.

We believe that our American sister party will dispatch its best militants as organisers among the working class and will determine its basic task as working amongst the working class to organise it as a class for itself.

With these sentiments, we salute and congratulate the fifth Congress of our sister party, The American Party of Labour, and wish you all the success in your work ahead.
