On March 1, Maya Malika, a member of the Chicago Revolution Club, was participating in a silent protest at the University of Chicago student center dining hall. Along with other activists of the Chicago Revolution Club, Malika held up sheets of paper announcing 11 minutes of silence for 11 million undocumented immigrants. Afterwards, the activists handed out literature and proceeded to the exit.
At the exit, they were stopped by University of Chicago Police who attacked Malika, arresting her and physically dragging her down the steps. Malika was then charged with “felony battery on a police officer” and “resisting arrest.” Malika was hospitalized for injuries sustained during the attack.
The American Party of Labor stands in solidarity with Maya Malika and all anti-racist, anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and revolutionary activists in the face of brutal fascist attacks.
