The National Liberation Army of Colombia

Bogota, July 1 (Prensa Latina) The insurgent Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the National Liberation Army (ELN) called today for an alliance and mobilization of all sectors of society and the left.

In a document titled Declaration for Peace, the two guerrilla forces stressed the need of unity to neutralize politically militarism and the extreme right that insist on waging an all-out war.

This unity also demands abandoning dogmatic and sectarian attitudes, and being open to a broad dynamics of alliances leading to build a New Colombia, they said.

Peace in our country requires a majority struggle against neoliberalism, the free trade agreements, the hungry international capital and its transnational corporations and it also requires defending what is ours, the people and workers’ interests, said the text.

The joint declaration appreciates the support of the international community and countries in particular, and extols “Commander Hugo Chavez Frias legacy to make this dream come true.”

The new reality of Our America is watching expectantly positive developments towards peace in Colombia, as all the peoples are aware that peace in Colombia is peace in the continent,” concludes the document.
