Report on the Anti-War Protest in Atlanta

On the afternoon of the 19th of March, 2011, determined people from all walks of life gathered together at the Midtown Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia to protest the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Libya. Represented were many groups from the workers movement such the UAW, SWP, International Action Center, Architects and Engineers Union and the RCP, all rallying around the same flag, that of peace. Also represented that day was the American Party of Labor. The march to Piedmont Park proceeded, led by a representation of an octopus (symbolizing the many tentacles of imperialism) and the Georgia State band. Fliers were distributed during the march along the streets and in the subways of Atlanta, GA in protest to the war in Iraq.

The march went well – even though it was eighty degrees or higher, people from all ages and all walks of the labor movement roughly equating to a few hundred devoted individuals participated eagerly. Ironically, as we were protesting these wars the United States on that very same day engaged in a new war against the people of Libya.

Attempting to hide the humanitarian aspects of the imperialist war of aggression and much to the chagrin of the bourgeois war machine, the atrocities committed by the various agents of imperialism were revealed for the world to see. In search of an illusive enemy; the United States war machine has carried out a vicious rampage upon the Muslim peoples of the world.

Hoping to paint themselves as benevolent crusaders for democracy the bourgeois class consistently hides its true nature as vindictive oppressors seeking nothing less then complete and total hegemony and the concentration of their spoils in the hands of a select few. Recent discoveries revealing Afghanistan’s intense mineral wealth and the well known oil wealth in Iraq there is little doubt that the imperialists plan for the United States armed forces to maintain a permanent occupation of the region.

It is rather apparent that the bourgeois classes care nothing for the proletariat using them as mere tools in their tireless wars. Only through the proletariat class marching together as one can the imperialist ambitions finally be ended. Only through concerted and tireless effort will the American people be able to end this cycle of invasion and vindictive annihilation. Only through uniting against the domination of the warmongers at every possible juncture will their endless wars be halted. This is why we say: all power to the people and the American working class.
